New Staff for the 2015-16 School Year!

Paige Caldwell
Social Studies
I enjoyed my childhood amidst the groves of Redlands and spent my teenage years picking oranges off the trees across from my own high school, Redlands East Valley. As a daughter of a music teacher and a musical instrument repairman, I was expected to participate in music from a young age. Since the age of five, I have played music on a variety of instruments from the piano to the trombone to the bass. In 2005 I began my career as a professional jazz musician, and for five years, I had the opportunity to travel all over Southern California performing the music I love. In high school, I was highly involved with marching band. Throughout all of this musical chaos, I still found time to play softball for twelve years, standing behind the plate as catcher from Little League to high school Varsity and well into my college years. After graduating high school in 2009, I attended University of California, Irvine where I received my Bachelor of Arts in History, with an emphasis in European history, alongside a minor in Education. I realized that teaching was my true calling after a variety of jobs failed to ignite the same passion as being an educator. In 2014, I came back to the Inland Empire to receive my teaching credential in Social Science from California State University, San Bernardino.
So, why history? In high school, I had a history teacher that encouraged me to look past the facts, and to see history for what it really is: access to the human experience. I have always been happiest when around people, and as overwhelming as human beings can be at times, we are fascinating creatures that can produce the most beautiful creations imaginable. When I went to college, I knew I wanted to build upon this idea. I have never looked back since. Well, except when literally looking back, in the study of history
My decision to become a teacher, aside from the fact that I absolute love to teach, comes from my deep-set interest in making our communities and our society a better place. I believe that any and all forms of education are how we critically evaluate all that surrounds us, and through this, we better ourselves as individuals and thus our surroundings. Education is how we become the best versions of ourselves, and I want to provide as many resources for success as possible to the students of this community, state, and nation.
I cannot express in words my excitement to join the RMHS family this upcoming year, so I will end with this: as awesome as the past is, the future could not be more exciting.

Rachel Green
English
Hello all! My name is Rachel Green (like from the hit 90’s sitcom, “Friends”) and I am so excited to be joining the wonderful team at RMHS! Growing up having both parents as educators has definitely proved to be a positive influence in my choosing to pursue a career in education. I have always loved teaching and learning, as well as reading and writing. My mother always tells stories at family gatherings about how I always had my nose in a book growing up! This summer, I traveled to Boston, and went on a literary book tour with my family. I had the amazing experience of visiting and touring the homes of American authors such as Nathaniel Hawthorne, Louise May Alcott, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Henry David Thoreau.
I grew up in Murrieta Valley where I was on the dance team and captain of the dance team at Murrieta Valley High School. After high school, I attended Cal State San Marcos where I received my BA in Literature and Writing with a focus in Literature. I then continued straight into the Single Subject teaching credential program at CSUSM where I obtained my teaching credential in English. I loved living in North County, San Diego for the past 6 years, but I am so excited to start a new chapter and share my love for English with my students in the Desert!
In my free time, I enjoy music festivals, traveling, and spending time with my loved ones. I absolutely love snowboarding, skateboarding, reading (of course), creative writing, and coffee. Once again, I am so ecstatic to be a part of the family at RMHS and to meet my students! Go Rattlers!

Rosie VandenBrook
Counselor
Hello, my name is Rosie VandenBrook and I am very excited to join the RMHS team. I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, but grew up in North Orange County, where I lived for 35 years. I graduated from Troy High School, in Fullerton, and then attended California State University, Fullerton, where I earned a BA in Psychology, an MS in Counseling, with a School Counseling Credential in 1995. I attained a License for Marriage & Family Therapy in 2003, and ran successful part-time practices in both Northern and Southern CA. I began my career as a High School Counselor 20 years ago in Corona-Norco USD, went to the San Jose area for a few years, and then to the high desert where I was the Alternative Education Counselor for the Snowline School District. In 2008, we moved to Conroe, Texas, where I have implemented a successful program for at-risk students through the last 7 years. I am very lucky to have been able to work in a variety of settings, and each one has shaped me into the counselor that I am today. I am married to my husband of 13 years, and our kids are three rescue labs—one black, one chocolate, and one yellow. Recreationally, we enjoy boating, fishing, riding ATVs, camping, the beach, and spending time with family and friends. I believe in focusing on the positives and encouraging students to push through challenges and to reach their goals personally, educationally, and professionally. I look forward to serving the students and families at Rancho Mirage High School and hope the experience will make a difference in the lives of the people I work with.

Athena Martinez
English
I am extremely proud to be a new member of the English department at Rancho Mirage High School. Although I am new to RMHS, I am not new to teaching. This will be my 15th year teaching and my fourth school. For the past eight years, I taught at Quinta High School, and before that, I taught at two different schools in Los Angeles.
I grew up right here in the Coachella Valley. After graduating from Palm Desert High School, I attended the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB). At Santa Barbara, I earned a degree in English and a degree in Media Communications. The day I graduated, I moved to Los Angeles and enrolled in the teacher education program at California State University Northridge. I graduated from CSUN with a Master’s Degree in English Education.
I have always wanted to become a teacher. In fact, I started teaching full time the month I turned 22 and I have never looked back. Working with students to improve their communication skills and to empower them as individuals is something I truly enjoy. My goal for this year is to help every student develop the skills they will need to be successful in school, in college, and in their future professions.

Science
It is important for me to say that I am so excited! That is excited to be one of the incoming teachers at Rancho Mirage High School. My assignment is to teach chemistry and participate on the “Café Team” for Culinary Arts.
As a kid I lived during the winter time in Chicago, Illinois and southern Missouri on a lake for the summers. These days I can be found in the garden or reading about almost any topic in my off hours. Formally I am trained as a Chemist, Bachelors of Science, Cal Poly Pomona, CA and Respiratory Therapist, Associates of Arts, Independence University, Salt Lake City, Utah. To the classroom I bring 20+ years of experience from many different career fields: destructive electronic parts testing and data analyst- ICS Radiation, research-Sunkist growers, inorganic chemistry lab tech -Metropolitan Water District, chemistry stockroom manager/lab tech – Mt. SAC College, assistant manager of technology- U.S. Department of Commerce, substitute teacher for private schools, Ontario Montclair and Corona Norco School Districts and respiratory therapist, Dignity Hospital. Also peppered in the years are an array of other educational management and consulting experiences.
The spark for wanting to be a teacher started when I was working at Mt. SAC College. Working with an amazing group of teachers inspired me to become a teacher. The department encouraged me to develop a chemistry club. This gave me great meaning and purpose. I shortly moved to acquire my teaching credential. Teaching and being a mentor to others has truly been threaded throughout many of my professional career positions.
As I move forward in becoming a full-time teacher at Rancho Mirage High School I look forward to working with each and every student in preparing them to be college and career ready. The Science Department offers a wonderful team of highly qualified teachers and I am honored to be a part of that team. Together will learn, teach and grow in the chemistry knowledge.

I grew up in northern California, in a small town of about 400 people. I grew up on 5 acres (the smallest parcel of land allowed in rural areas of the county). The school district was quite geographically large, but my graduating class was less than 100. I knew all of my classmates by name, and many of the kids who were not in my graduating class as well. It was a great place to live, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Near the end of my senior year I decided that of the subjects I took in High School the thing I most enjoyed was the word problems in my calculus class. It was fun to take the calculus we had learned to a real world problem. I found the challenge of coming up with equations from scratch, to be exciting. This meant that I would probably enjoy Physics. I decided from then on that Physics would be my major.
While taking physics courses my focus shifted away from enjoying the mathematical challenges to enjoying learning the concepts. I was constantly learning new things. I loved how physics explained things that I could see all around me. Many things in physics are astounding and mind blowing.
I love physics. I love to teach. I love to share my excitement for physics. I love that moment when my students finally get it and it clicks. I love to tell or show people things that blow their minds. I strive to be the kind of person that can help people, that can show people that they can achieve their goals, that they are valuable. What better than for me to be a Physics Teacher.
When I’m not doing physics I enjoy spending time with my wife and son. I also like camping, fishing, gardening, cooking, and video games.

Bok, ja sam Miss Svetich, drago mi je što smo se upoznali! Ahem, hello! My name is Miss Svetich, and its very nice to meet you! I will be teaching two sections of honors physics and three sections of chemistry this year.
This is my first year teaching in a high school, but I have taught university physics labs for the past 3 years. I was President of my physics club and Vice President of an astronomy club I helped start at Illinois State University. I graduated May of 2015 and moved to California from Champaign, IL.
I was also heavily involved with nonlinear dynamics research, which is a branch of physics that focuses on the effect of minute changes in initial conditions of a system. The system I studied focused on charged particles interacting with Earth's magnetosphere at a certain disturbed point called the X-line.
When not at school I enjoy the company of my loving boyfriend and two pets Lrrr (tortoise) and Lumiere (ball python). I love to be outside and stare up at the night sky, yet a night inside playing video games is also time well spent. I’m looking forward to having a great first year in the desert with you guys!

David Holland
Auto
My name is David Holland. I am very proud and excited to be a part of RMHS. I was born a military brat at Fort Smith Arkansas in 1961. My dad was in the Army and met my mother in Luxembourg. I lived there until I moved to Memphis TN when I was 13 years old.
My favorite subject in High School was Auto Shop. I would never have survived High School without being able to spend 3 hours every school day in the shop. It was my only reason for going to school. I’ve had a passion for cars since I was in High School. I spent many weekends at drag races and tinkering with race engines looking for that one little “tweak” to make them go just a little faster. I’ve even served as crew chief on a Drag Race team that raced a 68 Chevy Camaro.
I graduated from High School and joined the Marine Corps. It was a challenge and an adventure that I loved and will always cherish (being a Marine is truly forever). My last name earned me the nickname “Dutch” in the Corps. After 6 years I left the Marine Corps for an opportunity to become a Deputy Sheriff. After ten years working in Law Enforcement I decided I wanted to give college a try. I graduated from the University of Memphis with a BFA in Art History.
A friend of mine was the Principal at the High School I graduated from and he asked me if I would be interested in giving teaching a try. I discovered I loved giving students the same joy (and opportunities) I had experienced in auto shop every day when I was their age. I began teaching Auto Shop in Pasadena (after I met my wife Christina and moved to California), transferred to San Diego for one year and then spent the last eight years teaching in Compton.
I love seeing young faces light up when they learn something new, or discover they can do something they never thought possible. I believe that Auto Shop should be a fun experience and a new adventure every school day. I’m really looking forward to the 2015/16 school year and getting a brand new Auto Shop rolling.

Work-Based Learning
My name is Jeff Kabel and I am honored to serve as the Work Based Learning Teacher (WBL) at Rancho Mirage High School. I look forward to learning a great deal from the staff and students about the culture of this school and how I can best adapt to support the needs and mission of RMHS.
A native of Riverside, California, I am married (Terri) with two sons, Matthew and Benjamin. I bring 13 years of experience to the classroom. I leave Desert Hot Springs High School after 12 years of teaching Civics, Economics, AP Government, Honors Economics, and World History. I spent my first year of teaching at Cathedral City High School where I taught Special Day science classes.
I earned a Master of Science degree in Human Resources at Chapman University in 2001 and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication (Professional Writing) at California State University, San Bernardino in 1991. I received my teaching credential from CSUSB in 2004.
Before entering the field of education, I dabbled in other occupational realms. I worked as a news director, writer, and business reporter for the Inland Empire TV News in Rancho Cucamonga, CA (1996-1998). In 1994, I served as a sports reporter for the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin newspaper and a staff writer for the Norco Pony Express weekly newspaper in 1993.
In coming to RMHS, I am eager to implement some of the topics we have covered in my economics classes at DHSHS including writing resumes and cover letters, interviewing techniques, and workplace ethics and etiquette. Mostly, though,I am here to learn how I can best serve the interests of our scholars and the business community in creating a mutually beneficial partnership for both student and employer.
On the personal side, I enjoy many hobbies, including cooking, hiking, playing sports with my sons, and reading political non-fiction. My late father,Jack Kabel, served as a teacher and a principal, and it is my hope that I can continue to follow the example he set as a teacher with patience, kindness, and respect.

I leave Desert Hot Springs High School after 12 years of teaching Civics, Economics, AP Government, Honors Economics, and World History. I earned a Master of Science degree in Human Resources at Chapman University in 2001 and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication (Professional Writing) at California State University, San Bernardino in 1991. I received my teaching credential from CSUSB in 2004.

Alexandra Monson

Hello Rattlers! My name is Alex Monson and I'm excited to be a part of the amazing RMHS staff this year! This will be my third year teaching and my first year teaching high school. I attended college in Idaho and graduated with my BA, majoring in English Education and minoring in Art Education. The past two years, I taught 6th and 7th grade English, 6th grade Dance, and after-school Zumba at a middle school in southeast Idaho. Even though life in the desert has been scorching hot so far, I'm more than willing to take the heat over freezing winters! I went to high school in Murrieta and grew up in southern California. I absolutely love this state! In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, watching movies, swimming, reading short stories, and exploring new places. My husband is from Huntington Beach so whenever we visit his family, we love going to the beach and body boarding! I love snorkeling and anything ocean-related. My all-time favorite thing to do is travel. I've been lucky enough to visit different countries around the world and have yet to see a place I dislike! I especially like anywhere with a tropical beach (who doesn't?)!
I can't wait to meet all my new students and make this a fantastic year!

Beth Brian
Art
Hello Rattlers!
My name is Ms. Beth Brian and I have the pleasure of being one-half of the brand new Visual Arts team at Rancho Mirage High School. In my class, we will be exploring the Elements of Art and the Principals of Design and producing creative art projects.
I have had an amazing background. I was born on March AFB and moved all over the United States as one of three daughters of an Air Force Staff Sergeant. When I was in junior high school (middle school to you), we moved back to California because my dad became the Education Officer at Norton AFB and I lived in a hundred year-old house in the middle of an orange grove. When I was in High School I was all about the performing arts. I was in Band, Orchestra, Drama, and sang in the Choir. Don’t get me wrong, I took basic Art and Ceramics, but didn’t really gain enthusiasm for the visual arts until I went to San Diego State University. There I did everything . . . drawing, painting, ceramics, metal work (yes welding), photography, jewelry, mosaics, and stained glass. All things I still enjoy doing. After graduating,
I started my own successful business and sold it before my daughter was born. When she was in the third grade, I took a job at her school as the librarian and went back to school and got my teaching credential through Chapman University. I am very excited to join the outstanding staff and students here at RMHS. I will be starting my 10th year in the district and my 19th year of teaching. I was most recently at CCHS but have also taught at JWMS and DSMS. I have the privilege of teaching Art 1 in the first year it will be offered and am looking forward to meeting you all and igniting your passion for the arts. In my free time, I like to garden, cook, sing, binge watch shows on Netflix, and create stained glass and jewelry. Don’t hesitate to say “Hi” if you see me on campus.

Science
My parents were doctors in the Navy so I moved a few times growing up. I spent most of my life in San Diego and love the beach, being outdoors, music, movies, and SCUBA. I have taught biology, life science, and marine science previously in Escondido and most recently at James Workman!
My husband is in the Army National Guard as an EOD tech (bomb disposal- yikes!). We have lived all over the U.S. and are happy to be back in Southern California again.
I have my masters degree in Educational a Technology and graduated in 2011 from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo with a B.A. in Biological Sciences! Go Mustangs!
I had always loved tutoring and teaching, but I had always imagined that I would end up teaching later in life, but why did I have to wait if I knew it was what I wanted to end up doing? So I dove in with both feet and took teaching classes in addition to my biology classes. It was during this time I earned grades that put me on the Dean's List -all while having the time of my life. I am so excited to be here and to meet you all!

Ruby Rivera

Hello!
My Name is Ruby Rivera and I will be starting my 8th year as a teacher. I grew up in the desert and I am a proud graduate of the Palm Springs Unified School District. I went to UCLA for my bachelors degree, UCI for my teaching credential and Masters in Education, and National University for my administrative credential. After working in other communities I knew that coming home to teach students in my hometown was the best decision for me. At RMHS I will be teaching English 9, World History and serve in the office as one of the Deans of Discipline. Because I strongly believe in the importance of an educational experience for students that includes high levels of student involvement inside the classroom and out, I also commit to being involved as a club advisor to groups on campus. I am the club advisor to SADD, and Close Up.

Abraham Aparicio

My family and I are very excited to be a part of the new staff at RMHS. My wife Nicolle and I have been married for the last eight and a half years, and moved into the valley three years ago with my daughter Olivia and son Ezra. Two weeks ago we were blessed with the arrival of our new baby girl Lucia, who was born a month early.
For the last five years I’ve been part of Cathedral City High School and its staff. While on staff I’ve been involved in the Digital Arts Technology Academy (DATA) and I’ve held the position of Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach for the last three years. While at Cathedral City I’ve taught US History.
I graduated from Temescal Canyon High School in the City of Lake Elsinore. From there I began my academic career at Mt. San Jacinto Junior College. Later I graduated from California State University San Marcos with a Bachelors Degree in History. From San Marcos I continued on to Azusa Pacific University where I earned my Teaching Credential and Masters in Education. I then continued to earn a second Masters in Educational Leadership with my Certificate of Eligibility to become and Administrator. I truly believe that education is the greatest asset we could ever achieve. It has the power to open doors, the power to change society, and most importantly it has the power to change the lives of individuals.

Brian Belliveau

Mr. Belliveau is a native of Torrance, California where he attended West Torrance High School. He went on to earn his B.A. in History from CSU, Dominguez Hills and his M.S. in Education from Walden University. Over the past 14 years, Mr. Belliveau has come to believe that classroom instruction has become an ever-evolving, intensely personal balancing act. In his words, “it is balancing content with process, the group with the individual, personal growth with academics, and curriculum with community demands. Integration makes my classroom more challenging and more fun every year as I try to bring learning to life through curriculum connected to each student.”
Kim Robinson

Kim Robinson is excited to be joining the staff of Rancho Mirage High School after 18 years in PSUSD 16 of those at Cathedral City High School. Yvette Mocete

I’m very excited to join RMHS as a new teacher! Although I’m a native of California, my father was in the military, so I grew up all over the country including Florida, Georgia, and New Jersey. I attended college at the College of New Jersey, where I graduated with a B.S.in Biology. After graduating, I spent some time working at a zoo in Wisconsin as a naturalist and then working at a science camp in Malibu. For the past three years I’ve been working as a science tutor for Upward Bound, a university based program that helps students go to college. This past June, I’ve graduated with my teaching credential and a masters in STEM Education from Cal State San Bernardino.
In my free time I enjoy drawing and painting, reading (both comics, graphic novels, and literature), exploring Southern California, and volunteering in my community.

I’ve been teaching for 17 years. I taught Middle School Math and Science for 10 years at Long Beach Unified School District and have been teaching Life Science at JWMS for the last 7 years. I attended Pennsylvania State University and the University of Puerto Rico, earning a BS in Biology and a BA in Political Science. I also went to medical school and obtained my law degree right after that. My passion for Biology and teaching have made the past 17 years very enjoyable and I am looking forward to sharing that same passion with the students and wonderful staff at RMHS.
I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, and come from a large family. I love camping, biking, cooking, and working on restoring my 1968 Roadster.
(It’s a work in progress, but I’ll finish it soon!) I love spending time with my two boys (Tyler, 4 and Jesse, 3) and traveling as often as possible.

Bruce Rhodewalt

Bruce Rhodewalt joins RMHS after six wonderful years at Palm Springs High School, where he was the math department chair, robotics coach, and occasional actor in dramatic productions.
Mr. Rhodewalt graduated from UC Irvine with a BS in Biology and promptly spent five years as a rock & roll journalist and bandleader in Los Angeles. During a slow work month, he appeared on Jeopardy!, winning twice. He discovered computers and embarked on a 20-year career as a programmer and systems analyst, contributing to projects at multiple sheriff's offices throughout California, as well as in aerospace, including a year working on the Space Station Freedom project for NASA. A chance encounter with one of his children's Algebra textbooks led him to discover his true calling: teaching math! He earned his math credential at Cal State San Bernardino, along with an MA in Education, Instructional Technology option. At PSHS last year, he taught a course in mobile app development.
Mr. R has taught math -- the best job in the world -- for ten years. His wife Janet teaches kindergarten and coaches a robotics team in Indio. They have two grown children. With uncles, aunts, and cousins, the four spend a good part of each summer at the family cabin in Bridgeport, CA, north of Mammoth, reading, walking, eating, napping, and playing cards.

Andrew Zeihen

Mr. Zeihen (aka Mr. Z) comes to RMHS after spending the last six years at Cathedral City High School. Mr. Zeihen attended Loyola Marymount University earning his Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He experienced the success of the “Lions” basketball team during the famous Hank Gathers and Bo Kimball era. After graduating, Mr. Zeihen’s first teaching job was at Bishop Montgomery High School (BMHS) in Torrance, Ca. At BMHS, he started a Computer Science Department and began teaching Computer Applications to all freshmen students and Algebra 2. Through this experience, he quickly realized that teaching was his passion and furthered his education by earning his teaching credential in Mathematics from Cal State Dominguez Hills. Mr. Z was also involved in school athletics as an assistant coach for the Varsity Basketball team. After five years, Mr. Zeihen spent the next 10 years at Mira Costa High School (MCHS) in Manhattan Beach, Ca. where he taught Algebra 2 Honors and Pre-calculus. While at MCHS, Mr. Z and a fellow Biology teacher developed a Marine Science Academy and he became the Math Department Chair! Mr. Z continued his involvement in student activities such as musical performances with students and fellow teachers and various fundraisers. He was actively involved in the annual “powder puff” football games and enjoyed coaching football to the senior girls. During this time, Mr. Zeihen earned his Masters degree in Educational Technology at the University of Pepperdine in Malibu, Ca. He enjoys incorporating technology into his classroom lessons and maintains a website to assist students in their education. After visiting the Coachella Valley numerous times, Mr. Z and his family decided to leave the Los Angeles area and make the Coachella Valley their home. He misses playing beach volleyball, but certainly does not miss the traffic! It is here that he fine tuned his teaching skills in Geometry at CCHS. Mr. Zeihen is an avid sports fan and enjoys watching the Dallas Cowboys, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Los Angeles Kings. His wife Kimberly works in healthcare and they have three young children (Dakota 9, Austin 7, and Bryce who just turned two!).

Vocal and Instrumental Music
Andy Eisenmann

Vocal and instrumental teaching artist, Andrew Eisenmann, began his professional music career by taking the advice of an 8th grade student in Cottonwood, California in 1990. In fall of 1991, he was introduced to one of his mentor’s, 25-year Metropolitan Opera mezzo-soprano soloist, Irene Dalis, and was invited to become a member of the exciting Opera San Jose Artist in Residence Program. After just two seasons, he was awarded a principal residency, and then performed 15 leading operatic roles for San Jose and San Francisco Bay Area audiences. In 1997, Andrew performed the world premiere song cycle of Craig Bohmler’s, Why I Like Movies (later adding orchestration and changing the name to Cinema Song), which was written for him, using texts that he chose.
After his tenure as an international opera singer, in 2002, Andrew returned to his first love of teaching, working with the San Jose Unified School District in the Willow Glen Middle and High School. He was also named the #1 Silicon Valley Hero of the Arts by the San Jose Mercury News (December, 2002).
In 2004, Andrew performed with the Coachella Valley Symphony, singing opera and musical theatre, and in 2006, he appeared in Beijing, Xi’an, and Shanghai, China, conducting the Palm Desert High School Chamber Singers in five performances and staying on to teach and sing a recital of American Songs at the Shanghai Children’s Palace. He was also awarded the prestigious Joseph B. Whitehead Excellence in Education Award by the Coca-Cola Scholar’s Foundation (and Simon Wiskowsky, one of his amazing former saxophone students).
Today, Mr. Eisenmann can proudly be found teaching both classical music and music theatre to Career Performing Arts Pathway students for the Palm Springs Unified School District, at the inception of Rancho Mirage High School, or working on the development and production of OPERA POWER (June, 2012 was the highly acclaimed 8th season, impacting nearly 13,000 public school children…free of charge), for the Palm Springs Opera Guild of the Desert / Anderson Children’s Foundation, in-school outreach program.
Andrew is also an active community member. While serving for 18 months as Cathedral City, California – Public Arts Commissioner, he produced Cathedral City LIVEARTS! Public Performance Series. He is the PROUD 2102-2013 PSUSD Teacher of the Year, and a 2013 Human Rights Commission Human Service Award Recipient.
At RMHS, it is Mr. Eisenmann’s goal to instill a love of the visual and performing arts, whether it be singing, painting, dancing, sculpting, playing flute, making films, bridging classical and technical arts, designing costumes, learning computer light boards, or managing a professional box office. Within Rancho Mirage High School, there is some facet of the arts for everyone…when you find your facet, you will help our exciting new school become a crown jewel among the top high schools in the United States.

Wendy Bystrzycki

I am glad to be joining the team at Rancho Mirage High School. When I was fifteen years old I visited Paris and immediately fell in love with the French culture and language. When I returned to New Mexico I began studying French in high school. Years later, after receiving my BA in French, I packed up and moved to France. The time I spent traveling and living over seas opened up my eyes to the endless possibilities the world has to offer. I returned to New Mexico and received my Master's in Education. It is then I moved to the Coachella Valley to help open Desert Hot Springs High School where I taught for 8 years. I have taught many subjects, French, theatre, dance, leadership and many others, and I find it difficult to say which I like best. I have learned over the years that it is the teaching of students, not the particular subject, that I enjoy the most.
Since leaving Desert Hot Springs High School to focus on my family, I have been keeping active in education. I have taught for College of the Desert, Idyllwild Arts Academy and On Your Feet Dance Productions. I am excited to be returning to the secondary level as a Rattler!
